The report shows that the average resident in Leeds earns £471 per week, seventeenth nationally, 30.9% of Leeds residents had NVQ4+ high level qualifications, fifteenth nationally, and Leeds' employment rate stands at 70.4% in 2010, twenty-fifth nationally, but was the only major city, along with Bristol, to have an employment rate at or above the national average.
Leeds has a diverse economy with employment in the service sector now far exceeding that in the traditional manufacturing industries. The city is the location of one of the largest financial centres in England outside London.
The extensive retail area of Leeds is identified as the principal regional shopping centre for the whole of the Yorkshire and the Humber region. There are a number of indoor shopping centres in the middle of the city, including the Merrion Centre, Leeds Shopping Plaza, St John's Centre, Headrow Centre, the Victoria Quarter, The Light and the Corn Exchange and in total there are approximately 1,000 retail stores.
In 2008 Education Leeds, a non-profit company owned by Leeds City Council, provided for 220 primary schools, 39 secondary schools and 6 special inclusive learning centres. Under the government Building Schools for the Future initiative, Leeds secured £260m, to transform 13 secondary schools into high achieving, e-confident, inclusive schools.
Further education in Leeds is provided by Leeds City College and Notre Dame Sixth Form Collage as well as three universities: the University of Leeds, Leeds Metropolitan University and Leeds Trinity.
The city's parks at Roundhay, Temple Newsam and Golden Acre have long been owned and maintained by the council for the benefit of ratepayers and among the open spaces in the centre of Leeds are Millennium Square, Leeds City Square, Park Square and Victoria Gardens.
The city has teams representing all the major national sports. Leeds United A.F.C. is the city's main football club. Leeds Rhinos (Rugby League), Leeds Carnegie (Rugby Union) and Yorkshire County Cricket Club are also based in the city.
Leeds has a climate that is oceanic, greatly influenced by the Atlantic and the Pennines. Summers are usually mild, with plenty of rain, while winters are chilly, cloudy with occasional snow and frost. Spring and autumn are mild but snow and frost are not unheard of.
Roundhay is an affluent suburb that is positioned 3-4 miles North-East of central Leeds and laying largely in the LS8 postcode.
Roundhay derives from Rond-haeg, a round hunting enclosure or deer park and was formerly a hunting park for the De Lacy family of Pontefract Castle.
Roundhay Park is a Victorian park and is the second largest city park in Europe. It comprises over 700 acres of parkland, lakes and woodland. The park has scented gardens for the blind, National Plant Collections, Canal Gardens, the Monet, Alhambra and Tropical World which attracts visitors all year round. In 2005 the Friends Garden was opened alongside Canal Gardens and the Rainbow Garden. Facilities include tennis courts, skateboard ramps, sports pitches, bowling greens, a sports arena, a golf course and fishing. A lakeside cafe overlooks Waterloo Lake: it was damaged by fire in 2007 but restored and re-opened in 2008.
Roundhay has a wide variety of housing, there is a mixture of Victorian through terraces, villas and twentieth century detached and semi detached housing. All of the housing in Roundhay is privately built, there are no council estates. Oakwood Clock is a notable feature of the area and is a large clock that was built in 1904 by Potts and Sons to the design of Leeming and Leeming and is sited at the bottom end of Roundhay Park; it was first designed as the centrepiece of Kirkgate Market, Leeds. After the design of Kirkgate Market was revised it was considered that this clock would no longer be suitable for the building, and the idea to place it in Oakwood came about. Eight years after it was first built this clock was erected in Oakwood.
Also close by is Soldiers Field, so called because it was the gathering place for troops in the First World War and today are huge playing fields next to Roundhay Park which have hosted many large-scale annual events. Aviation pioneer Robert Blackburn conducted test flights of his aircraft in 1909 and in 1919 established a small airport here, with flights to London and Amsterdam.
Oakwood has a wide variety of housing, there is a mixture of Victorian through terraces, villas and twentieth century detached and semi detached housing. There has never been any mass house building in Oakwood at any one time, there is no consistent style throughout the area.

The residential areas on and around the Sandmoors, Alwoodley Lane and Wigton Lane are amongst the most exclusive in Leeds, with many large detached family homes, imposing mansions and exclusive flat developments.

The Chapel Allerton Lawn Tennis and Squash Club is hidden away at the back of the square and is in fact 128 years old.
Chapel Allerton is a conservation area for the character and historical interest of its buildings noted not for grand edifices but rather a diversity of good quality domestic buildings from various periods.
There is a vast range of residential property styles including Gothic style villa’s and Victorian terraces. However the main style is twentieth century detached and semi detached housing.

Enfields Leeds is proud to announce that they have become a corporate sponsor of The Children's Heart Surgery Fund.
The Children's Heart Surgery Fund (CHFS) is a registered charity based at the Yorkshire Heart Centre in Leeds General Infirmary. The centre covers Yorkshire, Humberside and the North Midlands.
The CHSF funds valuable equipment, resources and research for the treatment of children with heart defects and provides a happy and relaxed atmosphere within the hospital for both the children and their families.
Every year 10,000 children pass through the paediatric heart unit at the LGI and approximately 330 of these undergo open heart surgery. Over 40% will need long term care. The charity's aim is to ensure that these children have the best possible chance of survival. Their hope is to give 'each child a childhood'; their dream is to give them an adulthood.
By appointing the CHSF as their charity partner Enfields are pledging to a programme of fundraising events over the coming months.
The CHSF was chosen by the Enfields, Roundhay based team because Manager Chris Heaps witnessed the organisation's invaluable work first hand when his own daughter was diagnosed with a Ventricular Septal Defect shortly after her birth in 2002.
Molly was born to Chris and his wife Claire on the 1st June 2002 at 02:07. A wonderful and beautiful girl who fulfilled all their dreams and wishes. When the Pediatrician examined Molly a heart murmur was detected and after a second opinion the family was referred to Pediatric Cardiac Unit at Leeds General Infirmary.
It was here that Molly's diagnosis was made. The doctors were quick to explain that Molly had a small hole in her heart that didn't require surgery and that in most cases such as Molly's the hole closes up as the child grows. They also stressed that with the exception of a couple of conditions Molly would lead a very normal life. Chris and Claire's worries began to lift a little.
It was during this traumatic experience and subsequent visits to the hospital that Chris became aware of the work the CHFS does for local children and their families. At that point Chris made a personal pledge to give something back to the hospital ward that cared so much for his own daughter.
